The Benefits of Acupuncture for Digestive Issues
For thousands of years, acupuncture has been used to treat a variety of diseases, including digestive issues. Our treatments can provide relief from common digestive issues and boost overall digestive health by targeting specific acupuncture points. Acupuncture has the following benefits for digestive disorders:

Alleviating common digestive issues
Acupuncture targets the digestive system through acupuncture points to regulate energy, or “qi,” to relieve digestive issues. This procedure improves digestion, decreases inflammation, and supports the body’s natural healing, relieving bloating, constipation, diarrhea, and stomach pain.

Reduces inflammation
Acupuncture can reduce intestinal inflammation by stimulating specific acupuncture points that aid in the regulation of the immune response and promote anti-inflammatory effects. Acupuncture can successfully reduce inflammation in the gastrointestinal system by restoring energy balance, increasing overall digestive health and comfort.

Balances gut flora
Acupuncture can help balance gut flora by regulating the gastrointestinal environment, promoting beneficial bacteria growth. By targeting specific acupuncture points, this ancient therapy can support a healthy microbiome, contributing to improved digestion, and nutrient absorption, to treat many types of digestive issues

Enhances nutrient absorption
By increasing gastrointestinal motility, acupuncture can enhance nutrient absorption. This holistic treatment helps optimize the digestive process by stimulating certain acupuncture points, allowing for greater absorption of key nutrients and eventually improving general health and well-being.

What to Expect During your First Acupuncture treatment for Digestive Issues

Health Assessment
Our expert practitioner will discuss your medical history, lifestyle, and concerns during your initial appointment to determine your health goals. Your practitioner will then examine your pulse, tongue, and ask many questions to find any imbalances. Based on this examination, they will diagnose and recommend a personalized treatment strategy.

Acupuncture
You’ll lie back comfortably on a treatment table during your acupuncture session as the practitioner carefully inserts thin, sterilized needles into particular points on your body for digestive issues. The needles may cause a slight sensation while they are inserted, but the procedure is normally painless. After the needles are inserted, you’ll be able to relax for 20-30 minutes while the acupuncture does its magic.

Aftercare and Follow-ups
Your practitioner will give you lifestyle, dietary, and at-home care homework after your treatment. They’ll also discuss follow-up appointment frequency based on your needs. The frequency of your follow-up meetings will depend on your needs and treatment goals, and reaction to the treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does acupuncture Hurt?
Acupuncture employs needles that are substantially smaller than those used by doctors for injections. The sensation has been compared to an insect bite or a pinch, however most people do not experience anything at all. Certain points can be painful to needle, and we aim to avoid them unless they are absolutely essential. If they are, we usually use thinner needles for those points. If you are sensitive to needles, we will modify your therapy so that you can reach your health goals while remaining comfortable.
How Many treatments does it take to resolve digestive issues?
The number of treatments required to treat any given ailment is determined by a variety of factors. Some of these characteristics may include: the length of time you have had the ailment, your age, dietary and lifestyle considerations, your willingness to do self-care at home, and so on. It’s also reasonable to note that this medicine isn’t magical, and no ailment will be completely resolved with just one treatment. Having said that, many patients often leave the office feeling more calm and with less discomfort than when they arrived.
How long is each treatment?
At The Subtle Point, we provide a range of services that can last anywhere from 5 minutes to an 90 minutes. Initial appointments, on the other hand, last one hour to 90 minutes. We will go through your health intake form, the expected number of sessions that will lead you to your health goals, the treatment techniques that will be used, herbal medicine, nutritional and lifestyle recommendations, and more during this appointment. Usually acupuncture treatments for digestive issues only require 30 minute sessions.
Do i need to disrobe for my treatment?
If we are only doing acupuncture for digestive issues, you will not have to disrobe. The areas that will be needled will be on your arms, legs, head, abdomen, and sometimes one ear.
