Most people find me after they've already tried a few things. Painkillers, physical therapy, sleep aids or a new diet help for a while, and then the problem returns. Usually something else is keeping it going: stress, poor sleep, the way you sit all day, or an old injury that never fully settled.
I'm Michael Sugiura, a licensed acupuncturist who was born and raised in Denver, and every visit is one-on-one with me, from the first conversation to the last needle. Depending on what you need, treatment may include cupping, Tuina massage, Chinese herbs or simple lifestyle changes alongside acupuncture. After every visit, you’ll know what we’re working on and what comes next.
The clinic is a calm, private space a few minutes from the Denver Tech Center and Greenwood Village.

Light Therapy
I use class 3B lasers and LED panels to support tissue healing and ease pain and swelling. It feels like little more than gentle warmth, and it's a modern alternative to moxibustion, the traditional practice of warming points with burning mugwort.

We accept cash, check, all major credit cards, and HSA/FSA cards. We don’t bill insurance directly, but we can provide a superbill you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.

About Me
I'm Michael Sugiura, a licensed acupuncturist in Colorado and a Diplomate of Traditional Chinese Medicine through the NCCAOM. I grew up in Denver, earned a business degree at Colorado State University, and spent time working in finance before realizing I wanted work that actually helped people. I went on to earn my Master's in Traditional Chinese Medicine at the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
I opened The Subtle Point to bring careful, one-on-one care to my hometown.

Sometimes, but never the way an injection does. Acupuncture needles are about the width of a human hair, roughly 25 to 40 times thinner than the needle used for a flu shot. Most people feel a brief tap as the needle goes in, then nothing, or a dull, heavy or warm sensation at the point that fades in a few seconds. That sensation is a good sign that the point is active. If any point feels sharp or uncomfortable, tell me and I will adjust or remove it. For sensitive areas like the hands and feet I use the thinnest needles available. Most patients are surprised by how relaxed they feel, and many fall asleep during treatment.

The number of treatments required to treat any given ailment is determined by a variety of factors. Some of these characteristics may include: the length of time you have had the ailment, your age, dietary and lifestyle considerations, your willingness to do self-care at home, and so on. It's also reasonable to note that this medicine isn't magical, and no ailment will be completely resolved with just one treatment. Having said that, many patients often leave the office feeling more calm and with less discomfort than when they arrived.

At The Subtle Point, we provide a range of services that can last anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes. Initial appointments, on the other hand, last 60 to 90 minutes. Usually acupuncture treatments for digestive issues only require 30 minute sessions.

If we are only doing acupuncture for digestive issues, you will not have to disrobe. The areas that will be needled will be on your arms, legs, head, abdomen, and sometimes one ear.
