What to Expect During Your First Treatment

Extensive Intake

During your first visit you will be asked many different questions relevant to your condition and it may also include a physical examination if you are coming in with pain.

Questions

Before we start we will answer any questions you may have about your treatment and about your condition. We will also go over needle placement, what to expect, etc.

Treatment

After the intake and going over concerns you may have we will begin the treatment. Your treatment may include light therapy, electro stimulation, cupping, gua sha, and massage.

Wrap Up

Most patients will feel relaxed at the end of the treatment and we will go over any last minute questions, after care, estimated future treatments, and lifestyle and dietary advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it hurt?
Acupuncture almost always feels like sharp for a split second and most patients don’t feel much after the insertion. If any of the needles do hurt your acupuncturist can either adjust the needles to stop the pain.

Some Tuina massage techniques can be uncomfortable and will feel similar to a deep tissue massage, especially if I am working on a specific knot, but just like with acupuncture the pain is momentary. Also, we can always adjust the pressure levels to your individual tolerance.

Slide cupping can hurt if it is your first time or if your muscles are extremely tight, but the purpose is to bring circulation and relaxation to a broad area and to cover the areas that the stationary cups will miss. Stationary cupping will initially cause the areas that they are placed on to feel very tight but after a few minutes you will feel your muscles and tissues start to relax.

Light and Laser therapy does not hurt at all and will gently warm the areas that they are placed over.

How Many treatments does it take?
At The Subtle Point our goal for our patients is to meet your goals in as few treatments as possible. The number of treatments that it takes to treat any given condition is based on a great number of factors. Some of these factors can include: how long you have had said condition, age, if the problem is caused from repetitive stress, your posture, etc. In some cases pain and tightness can be resolved just after 1 treatment with the benefit lasting for several months, and in most cases a series of follow ups will be needed.

How long is each treatment?
We offer 30, 60, and 90 minute sessions. Most follow up sessions will be 30 minutes long unless you have a large or numerous areas of pain and any remaining time will be spent on cupping, tuina massage, gua sha, or answering any questions you may have.
Do i need to disrobe for my treatment?
It depends on what I am treating and what you are wearing to the clinic. It is recommended that you bring in a pair of shorts or loose fitting pants to change into. In most circumstances you can expect needles in your arms and legs, and the specific areas of pain.
How can I schedule an appointment?
To schedule an appointment you can call, send us an email, or book online by clicking on the “Book Now” button in the upper right portion of the screen.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, check, and credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover).
Do you accept insurance?
At this time I am not accepting insurance, but I can give you an invoice/superbill to give to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Our Patient’s Acupuncture Testimonials

Mike was absolutely amazing and I left our first session together feeling so grounded and in less pain than I had arrived in. I went in for an initial consult for acupuncture and dry cupping. The acupuncture was great- I previously had a bad experience with another practitioner whose sessions left me anxious and in pain from her work. I confided in Mike about this and he put my worries at ease right away. His needlework is fantastic and he was great about answering all my questions. The cupping session was fantastic as well! I’m very active every day and had pulled part of my back near my rib cage. I left the cupping session feeling so much better than when I had entered and felt like I was able to finally sit up straight without the discomfort from my back. I would recommend him to anyone. It’s important to find people in this industry like Mike who are grounded, empathetic, and kind.

I woke up in absolute agony today – back pain and GI pressure causing me to walk like an 85 year old woman – not to mention the other myriad of things I added to the ‘to-do’ list. Typically would go through my insurance for acupuncture treatment, but it’s impossible to get appointments. Mike was able to fit me in today for my consult and first treatment. By the time I returned to work, I could walk upright and am already feeling some GI relief. Also, needled my sinuses and could breathe almost immediately! Also, took the time to listen to all my ailments, made lots of good suggestions, and also suggested some additional testing for potential causes that I would have never thought to ask about. Very much puts you at ease to be open and communicative with no fear of judgement or shame! I’d rather visit Mike than go through my insurance. 100% will be a patient/client for life and i’ve already made a referral to a friend! (making my next appointment now!)

Mike was beyond amazing. He takes the time trying to find out the problem and explains what the problem might be. He makes you feel very comfortable and relaxed. I went in with a back I wanted to throw away and left with a brand new back! So much stress was released and I know this sleep is about to be on point! I for sure will be returning!

I have been going to mike for weeks for back and shoulder pain, it’s been making a huge difference. Most recently I was talking about how if he sticks enough needles in my back, I might be lucky enough to be reincarnated as a porcupine. Very chill guy, seems pretty open to any treatment that will benefit clients. Great taste in music, too. I plan to keep making appointments until my pain is resolved. After years of doing acupuncture and other pain management treatments, this is the first TCM practitioner I’ve found that uses all the tools he knows to actually help make real improvements.

Great experience. I do the 90 minute acupuncture and cupping combo. I usually go in with moderate to severe back pain and leave pain free. Mike does a great job explaining things and making you feel comfortable. He has many other techniques to add to the experience. Highly recommend trying him out for many different ailments beyond just back pain, see if it works for you!

Great service. This was my first time with acupuncture but he took the time to help me understand it all. Very good one on one experience that wasn’t rushed at all. I feel great and want to keep improving. I’ll be going back next week!

Mike did a great job! I suffer from chronic pain and I didn’t know I could feel such relief. I left completely relaxed and shocked at how low my pain level was. He explained everything he was doing and made the session very comfortable. Basically he’s just good at what he does and I would recommend him to anyone.

I went to Mike for my intro session today and I’m so glad I did! His treatment options are integrated and I can honestly say I feel better right now than I have in a while. I highly recommend that if you are thinking of trying something like acupuncture you should definitely go here! Plus he literally spent so much time helping me and listening. He even sent me my requested recommendations for a few things right away like he said afterwards! I look forward to my journey to health through this proven modality(s)!

I highly recommend The Subtle Point as Mike, the acupuncturist, is very professional and is an extremely knowledgeable treatment provider. I could not be happier with my treatments from acupuncture to dry needling and even fire cupping; it all left me feeling amazing. Every issue I had was addressed with care. I really like his office as it is a very relaxing environment. I recommend The Subtle Point to everyone I know.

I got my neck cranked pretty hard in jiu jitsu a couple months ago and had some pretty bad nerve issues/pain around the neck and shoulder. I decided to visit Mike at The Subtle Point to give acupuncture a try to see if it might help. After a few sessions I started to feel way better and actually started to heal. I also got some cupping done which helped with some muscle soreness as well. It was amazingly relaxing and after a few sessions the pain was gone. Not sure why I waited this long in life to try it, definitely helped the healing process for me and Mike was great to work with.

Mike is experienced and knowledgeable of accupuncture practice. His prices are affordable and he is professional but very welcoming and friendly. This has to be one of the best accupuncturist that I have seen. Anyone in the colorado area should definitely stop by at subtle points. It is definitely a great experience and life changing. He specializes in all area but mostly with chronic pain, anxiety and stress. Look no further this will be one of your favorite places to go to.

This place was incredible. I went in feeling like a hot mess and by the time I walked out of my appointment I felt like I was floating on air. I would definitely do this again. Not only was the experience great but Michael was great as well. I felt so comfortable and at ease while I was in my session with him. I have recommended him to everyone I work with.

I’ve been plagued by horrible chronic back pain for over ten years. I’ve tried everything except surgery, and only experienced mild relief at most… Until I went to The Subtle Point. I’ve had ZERO back pain since my appointment yesterday afternoon- it sounds dumb but I’m able to stand long enough to wash all my dishes! I will definitely be going back, and think you should go there, too!!

Mike is very professional and knowledgeable. He did acupuncture for my hernia and it is much smaller now. He also suggested some herbs to improve digestion. I also had some main in my arm and it’s gone after gua sha treatment. Me and my wife (she did some treatments as well) both feel much better.

I highly recommend The Subtle Point and acupuncturist Mike! The pricing is very fair, the environment is elegant yet welcoming-a very relaxing atmosphere and a great escape from the bustle of the city-and Mike is a warm and extremely knowledgeable treatment provider happy to tailor your experience to your desires. I would definitely suggest trying out the fire cupping: it felt amazing! I will return to The Subtle Point!

Michael is a true healthcare practitioner! His research went above and beyond, and his dedication to treating the whole person as well as the etiology of the presentation was paramount! He even did research to help my son, who at the time, was a peripheral patient but I digress… I went to Michael with the hope of simple pain mitigation. After months of consistent acupuncture, herbal and light therapy, as well as supplements to address deficiencies, I have gone from relatively hopeless to incredibly hopeful, as the pain is almost gone. Michael addresses the root cause of the issue, and for me, helped to create an environment that was tolerable until true health was achieved. You are not going to get this kind of dedication and in depth research for your individual health issue from many practitioners… especially those who are hamstrung to disease management. Like I said before, Michael’s work is true healthcare!
